When Captain William Hilton wrote of the area in 1663, he talked of a land replete with oaks and walnut trees. A land alive with swans, geese, cranes, crabs and oysters. It was a fertile land then as it is today.

Oldfield’s commitment to the natural beauty of the Lowcountry extends throughout the community. An up-close look at the flora and fauna of the area helps members appreciate how truly extraordinary this land is. That is why 8 miles of trails lead around Oldfield—through woods, by marsh, and along freshwater and saltwater lakes. There are even rest stops and an interpretive area to help members fully understand the native species that they encounter.
