IT’S A GREAT TIME OF YEAR FOR GOLF AT OLDFIELD
The professional staff at Oldfield’s Greg Norman-designed golf course is looking forward to all the golfing fun this fall. The pros are also happy to assist members and their guests with club selections and other golfing needs. They have provided some tips about which clubs are the most important in your bag and vital for you to play your best golf.
- The putter is the most important club in the bag because you use it more than any other. Putting is about 42 percent of the game, so make sure you have a putter that looks and feels good to you. The length of the putter is the first thing to consider. Do you like a standard 35-inch putter, a belly putter or a long putter? Does a face-balanced mallet putter feel better than a blade to you? After answering these questions, make sure you pick the putter that will give you the most confidence.
- You need to get a driver that will get you off to a good start, so get the right loft and shaft flex when selecting your driver. Do not get a driver because it is on sale or because it works wonders for your golfing buddy. The money you save on a less expensive driver will cost you money in lost golf balls.
- The golf course is a factor when picking your wedge. If your course is tight around the greens and the bunkers are firm, you will need a wedge with less bounce. A sand wedge that works well at Oldfield would have six to 10 degrees of bounce. Golf courses that are soft with fluffy bunkers would require a wedge with more bounce.
