What’s New: Latest News: The Tar Heel Tour was played at Oldfield!!
The Tar Heel Tour was played at Oldfield for the third consecutive year from March 25th through March 28th. The purse for this ‘prestigious low country event’ was $250,000 and attracted former and future PGA Tour players from all over the United States. Tommy ‘Two Gloves” Gainey, who won the event in 2007, has since earned his PGA Tour card. This year’s winner was Paul Butler who shot a 67 in the final round and took home $40,000.00. Paul was quoted as saying, “This win means everything to me. It gives me a ton of confidence. I got a tip from my girlfriend’s boss that helped me with my mental game and it really made all the difference.”
The TPGG Classic, sponsored by the Tour Players Golf Group, provided the $250,000 purse – making it among the richest mini-tour events in all of golf. Al Couch, TPGG’s CEO, said that he was glad the tournament was played at Oldfield, which he called one of the best courses on the Tarheel Tour! Ron Charron, TPGG President, and Al Couch stated that the company was started a few years ago “because of their love of golf and their desire to help young pros lacking the financial wherewithal to start touring careers.”
The Tarheel Group and TPGG lauded Jon Hundley, Oldfield’s Head Golf Professional, and his staff for putting together a successful tournament and Head Golf Course Superintendent, Hugh Williams, and his crew for presenting a great course for the players – one of the best venues in the developmental golf tour.
