About Us: History: The History of Oldfield

The “1732” under the spreading live oak is the year this land was granted by the English Lord Proprietor as a parcel noted as “Old Field.”

In 1781, the plantation on the land, Wigg’s Bluff, was burned by British troops, rebuilt and shelled by Union gunboats. In 1972, the pristine property passed into the hands of Robin Carrier who built the Georgian structure now serving as Oldfield’s River Club. She farmed the land and entertained with dove, duck, deer, turkey and wild boar hunts.
